HIT, FUMEC, and Hunt Foundation for Global Competitiveness Announce Strategic Consortium to Advance Innovation, Manufacturing, and Economic Competitiveness Across the Borderplex Region
El Paso,TX. — HIT Hub of Innovation and Technology, FUMEC – United States–Mexico Foundation for Science, and the Hunt Institute for Global Competitiveness today announced the formation of a strategic agreement of cooperation designed to accelerate advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defense development, technology commercialization, workforce innovation, and binational economic competitiveness throughout the Borderplex region and the U.S.–Mexico corridor.
The strategic agreement brings together industry leadership, international collaboration, innovation ecosystem development, and public-private partnerships to position the Borderplex region as a nationally recognized hub for advanced manufacturing, aerospace supply chains, technology transfer, and industrial innovation.
Through this alliance, the organizations will collaborate on initiatives focused on:
- Advanced manufacturing and aerospace, medical, EV, auto parts industry development
- Supply chain resilience and nearshoring strategies
- Technology commercialization and innovation ecosystems
- Workforce development and STEM pathways
- Research, Development & Deployment (RD&D) initiatives
- International trade and binational competitiveness
- Industry cluster development and investment attraction
- Small and medium manufacturer modernization and readiness
- Public-private partnerships supporting regional economic transformation
The consortium will support regional efforts involving manufacturers, educational institutions, government agencies, investors, defense stakeholders, and innovation partners to create a long-term framework for sustainable economic growth and industrial competitiveness.
“This agreement represents a transformational step toward building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem for the Borderplex region,” said representatives of the partnership. “By aligning technology, manufacturing, workforce systems, and international collaboration, we are creating a platform capable of supporting the next generation of industrial growth and economic opportunity across the Southwest and North America.”
The alliance will also focus on strengthening cross-border collaboration between the United States and Mexico, leveraging the strategic geographic advantages of the Borderplex region, including its proximity to major advanced manufacturing centers, international ports of entry, aerospace, medical, and auto parts assets, research institutions, and rapidly expanding supply-chain infrastructure.
This alliance intends to pursue strategic initiatives and projects involving aerospace and defense manufacturing, electric vehicle supply chains, robotics, advanced materials, MedTech manufacturing, logistics technologies, and emerging industrial sectors aligned with North American reshoring and nearshoring trends.
As part of its long-term vision, this alliance will support the development of innovation networks, industrial readiness programs, supplier development initiatives, STEM workforce pipelines, and collaborative platforms designed to strengthen regional competitiveness while attracting national and international investment.
The organizations stated that additional strategic partners, institutional collaborators, industry stakeholders, and regional participants are expected to be announced in the coming months.
